Our approach to Developing a Christ-like lifestyle through Authentic Christian Community
Here at Cove Church, we are committed to implementing the most effective strategies we know of to live out our mission of helping people to Discover a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and Develop and Demonstrate a Christ like lifestyle. From the earliest days of Cove, we have believed that life change happens best through small groups. We have adopted the Community Group model as our way of creating Authentic Christian Community for life change.
Each Community Group is lead by a trained member of Cove Church, who sets the tone and direction for that group. Each group has four key values that we believe embody what it means to be an authentic Christian community. Those four elements are:
- Fellowship - getting to know and actually value each other. This is more than just enjoying a funny story or eating a meal, this is about seeing what God has done and is doing in each group member - and supporting them. Fellowship is the glue that keeps relationships together when schedules get busy or priorities are shifting.
- Bible Study - seeing what the Bible has to say about this crazy adventure we call life. For many of us, finding our way around the Bible can be a challenge. In our Community Groups, we have leaders who are trained in the methods of finding appropiate scriptures and digging into the historical and contemporary meaning. The forms of study vary from group to group, with some using Video based teachings, others using Sermon Notes or other written resources.
- Prayer - believing that God cares about the things that are on our hearts and minds, and taking to Him about those things. As a group, we share those things with each other, and commit to remember to pray for one another. Prayer changes things, and is an important part of Developing a Christ like lifestyle.
- Service - seeing the needs beyond our personal lives, and responding to them with our resources (time, energy, finances, connections). If a group always focuses on what is "inside" then they are missing out on one of the biggest things God has called us to...looking beyond ourselves. As groups engage in Service opportunities, they grow in their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ, and what it means to be a part of an Authentic Christian Community.
