Weekend Update 1.27.12

Hey Everybody,

I hope you can join us for the final installation of The Joneses series this Sunday. We've received a lot of good feedback on how this series is prompting conversations and provoking families to reevaluate priorities. This is the best kind of feedback--actual lives changed. As we have been challenging some of the myth's of the American Dream, represented in the mythical Jones family, we have touched on money and possessions (Living the Good Life), pace of life (Going through the Motions), and relationships/authenticity (Keeping up Appearances). This past Sunday was especially powerful. Thanks so much to Stephen and Jane Hampton for being courageous and transparent enough to share their story of brokenness and healing. If you missed it, I encourage you to check out the podcast at www.covechurch.com/podcast.

This Sunday, we end on the most important subject of all, our faith. I urge you to make every effort to be present as I teach on the topic, Checking the Box. This message has been on my heart for weeks. I ask you to join me in praying that God will use our time Sunday morning to speak directly to our hearts and minds to inspire us toward a deeper understudying of what a growing relationship with Him is really all about.

Finally, pray for our high school students, along with the staff and volunteers, who leave this afternoon for our annual Encounter retreat at CampToKnowHIm, in Pisgah, AL. Pray that God's presence will permeate all aspects of their experience this weekend and that these students truly will have an encounter with the living God.

See you Sunday,

John Tanner
